Accounting enables you to develop knowledge and real world skills to manage the financial affairs of individuals, community organisations and small businesses.
Students will learn how to:
prepare & maintain financial records
manage financial affairs
act with integrity
contribute to the wider community.
It is not maths and....... you will learn skills which directly relate and are used in real jobs all over the world!!
In Business Studies students will:
Research what happens in real businesses, either individually or in groups
eg, Dominoes, Subway, EB Games, Whittakers, Cadbury’s, The Warehouse - you choose!
Run your own business in a group and sell your products
Year 11 - at HVHS Market Day
Year 12 - at Lower Hutt Gracefield Market, plus one other selling activity to local community
Year 13 - Young Enterprise Scheme, run business over 8 months finding local producer to make the product and sell around NZ.
Learn about how businesses operate in the 'real' world through lots of really interesting examples & you tube or news clips! We focus on:
Year 11 - small local business
Year 12 - large national businesses
Year 13 - global businesses
Visit local business owners or hear from guest speakers who are very successful business people.
In Economics students will learn to:
think differently to others and help to solve real issues that people and countries’ face ie, rising house prices in Auckland, Christchurch rebuild, impact of drought on NZ dairy industry
develop an understanding of the New Zealand economy and the policies that the Government uses to achieve higher standards of living ie, Fiscal Policy (changes in tax rates) and Monetary Policy (changes in interest rates)
understand where New Zealand fits in the global marketplace through international trade, exchange rates and Free Trade Agreements.
