Special Programmes and Learning Support
Our school has a proud history of closing the gaps for many students who have struggled with learning.
Some arrive, working several years below their age and leave with NCEA Levels 1, 2 and/or 3. Their prospects for employment are well above what they ever imagined.
Students are placed in mixed ability classes but some may need extra support.
How do we identify people needing support?
• Caregiver referral
• Self-referral
• Information from contributing schools and other agencies
• Teacher referral
• Screening on entry and at the end of each year.
Support may include any of:
-
One to one or small group teaching around literacy issues
-
Placement in a targeted class which has a smaller number of students and teacher aide support
-
A differentiated curriculum
-
Teacher aide support in some classes through to senior levels
-
Special Assessment conditions including a variety of supports, e.g. reader/writer
-
Assistive technology for note taking and assessments
-
ORS support with a specialist teacher and teacher aide time.
-
RTLB (Resource Teacher, Learning and Behaviour) support
-
Y9 Numeracy option
-
Y9 Literacy option
-
Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy option
-

-
