Hutt Valley High School is committed to ensuring that all students leave our school on a planned pathway equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualifications to support future success in further study or in the world of work.

Careers Team at HVHS

The Careers Team at HVHS are Amanda Walters (Careers Advisor) and Jude Allen (Head of Careers & Transition Pathways). They are available to meet with students to help with course selection, enrolling for tertiary study, applying for scholarships, CV writing, applying for jobs and more.

To book a time to meet with the Careers Team students simply need to write their name on one of the clipboards outside the Careers Office, located upstairs in G Block opposite G5.

Student Loans, Allowances & Benefits

A student loans can help to finance a student’s tertiary study. It’s made up of three parts – course fees, course-related costs and living costs. Depending on a number of criteria a student may be eligible for a student loan, student allowance and/or accommodation benefit for more information and eligibility tests click on the links below.

A range of scholarships, grants and internships are offered every year from universities, polytechnics, tertiary providers, organisations and businesses throughout New Zealand and overseas.

Scholarship Instructions for HVHS Students

  1. Please read this helpful summary of the HVHS Scholarship Process
  2. Start researching early. Identify the scholarship/s you wish to apply for and take note of application and closing dates.
  3. Read the information carefully so that you know what information is required in your application.
  4. As early as possible, fill in the HVHS Scholarship Application Form
  5. Complete a separate form for every scholarship you are applying for. In this form students provide details for the school to write a reference and/or to provide any documentation your application requires.
  6. If your scholarship application requires you to provide a school referee’s name, please use our school’s Scholarship Writer, Rebecca Ferrick (rebecca.feerick@hvhs.school.nz).
  7. Submit your scholarship application to the university or polytechnic at least least three days before the closing date to allow them time if they need to request additional information.
