The Duke of Edinburgh is an Internationally recognised award scheme that is held in very high regard. It is a valuable and worthwhile award scheme where students can be rewarded for all the activities they currently participate in.
Sarah Coales, the Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator at HVHS, brings a wealth of experience from coordinating the Award at other schools, and her role at HVHS is to support students as they register and work their way through the Award.
Students are welcome to begin at Bronze, but they can also enter directly at Silver or Gold.

Duke of Edinburgh Participant Assistance Fund
The Participant Assistance Fund has been set up to:
- Provide support for participants enrolling to do the Award who find the fee is a barrier.
- Offer limited support, on a case by case basis, for Adventurous Journey support.
- On a case by case basis we may be able to support in other areas to help a participant complete their Award.
All applications must be made through Sarah Coales, our Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator. Students and families should not apply directly. Please email Sarah Coales at sarah.coales@hvhs.school.nz if you’d like to know more about the Participant Assistance Fund.
