Studying Languages

Languages link people locally and globally. They are spoken in the community, used internationally, and play a role in shaping the world. Oral, written, and visual forms of language link us to the past and give us access to new and different streams of thought and to beliefs and cultural practices.

The more languages you can use to communicate, the more business, social and fun opportunities could come your way. Your own first language acquires a different dimension when you have another one to compare it with. Learning a language is an excellent brain power exercise to keep you adaptable, creative and productive. Language learners will be more tolerant and understanding of people from different cultures.

At Hutt Valley High School we offer languages all the way from Year 9 to 13 and Scholarship. Students enjoy the learning journey participating in plenty of exciting opportunities such as class activities, cooking, crafts, and the ultimate experience: travelling to the exotic and enchanting destinations where the languages are spoken.

The Languages Learning Area offers overseas trips to France, Japan and Spain every two years for Senior students.
