School Board & Policies

School Board

All of Aotearoa’s state and state-integrated schools have a school board which is the Crown entity responsible for the governance of the school. The board:

  • ensures every student can reach their highest possible standard in student achievement
  • sets the school’s strategic direction in consultation with parents, whānau, staff, students and the wider school community
  • is responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration
  • is the employer of all staff in the school.

The legal responsibilities of school boards are determined by the Education Act of 1989.

School Board Members

The Hutt Valley High School board members are:

  • Denise Johnson – Principal
  • Susan Dunne – Presiding Member/Parent Representative
  • Jen Broster – Parent Representative
  • Charles Darr – Parent Representative
  • Andrew Hood – Parent Representative
  • William More – Parent Representative
  • Sarah Robbins – Staff Representative
  • Yael Roesch (13LR) – Student Representative

Also in attendance at board meetings are Lana Goddard (Board Secretary) and Tim Fox (Deputy Principal).

Board Meetings

In 2026, meetings will be held on Tuesdays on the following dates: 24 February, 24 March, 12 May, 23 June, 11 August, 15 September, 3 November, and 1 December.

Board meetings are held in public, and all members of the Hutt Valley High School community are welcome to attend.  Some sensitive matters are discussed in committee, in accordance with Part 7 of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987.
