Description

  • Full school Athletics Day Tuesday 14 February 2024 (PP date 6 March) at the Hutt Recreation ground. From this event students are selected for the Hutt Zone Athletics Championships.
  • Athletes who qualify through Wellington Regional Champs also compete at the North Island Champs in April, this is a Wellington team and the school does not necessarily take the students. Families may be required to assist in this.

Description
  • Badminton is played at both a competitive and social Competitive level for the inter-school competition for all age groups.
  • JUNIORS – Year 9 – 10 – play Thursdays – 4 – 6pm starting May 9.
  • SENIORS – Year 11-13 – play Fridays – 4 – 6pm starting May 10.
  • SOCIAL TEAM SET UP:
    • Students may make up a Social Competitive team of at least 6 players, but at the time of entering their team, they must also nominate a competent adult coach / manager to attend their games.
    • All players must complete an individual online registration and then early 2024 teams will collect a Special form from the sports office to complete.
    • Training is optional for these teams.

Description
  • College Sport Wellington has a bowls development officer who makes bowls fun and friendly.
  • Competitions are played at Massey Avenue Bowling Club, Woburn (short 10 min walk).
  • Teams play in pairs in Term 1 (Yr 9 – 13).
  • Participants play singles, pairs or triples depending on numbers present on the day in Term 4.
  • Bowls competitions are played on Thursdays afternoons 4-5pm, Interschool Hutt Valley.
  • No experience required.

Managers
  • All teams will require a manager. Typically, a manager will be able to help with organising the team on match day and assist with a scoring team.
  • Managers are required to help lock up the gym after training if their team is the last to train.
  • Managers are required to be police-vetted. Forms can be completed at the front office.

Description
  • Girls Cricket
    • HVHS 1st XI and 8 a side girls’ teams.
    • Thursday afternoon from 4pm.
  • Boys Cricket
    • HVHS has 1st XI, 2nd XI, Year 10, Year 9A and Senior T20 teams.
    • Saturday morning or afternoon grades.
    • Students play a mix of 50 overs, 40 overs, T20 games depending on their divisions.
    • Cancellations/alterations on the College Sport Alterations page usually by 8:00 am on Saturday morning.
  • All Teams
    • The school van may be available to transport students to away venues, as long as they have a police-vetted driver – manager must book the van for the team in advance via the Sports Office.
    • Draws will not be emailed to you regularly so please keep an eye out for the draws each week.
    • College Sport Wellington requirement that all year 9 HVHS cricket players attend the Level 1 Cricket Umpires Course – this is likely to be held mid-February and at HVHS Pavilion.

Description
  • HVHS competes throughout the season from April through to October.
  • Competing in various events such as Karori relays, Wellington Cross Country Champs and Nationals.
  • It is an opportunity for all participants with a running ability/background to work on their aerobic fitness, providing benefits for many other sporting activities.

Dragon Boating (Term 1 Only – Year 13 Students Only)

Description
  • Students must be able to swim at least 50 meters in open water in a buoyancy aid.
  • Please only sign up if you can commit to the four trainings and all the two event days (see below).
  • 2024 is also the NZ NATIONAL Dragon Boat competition.
  • Minimum 10 girls padding in each team. 1 drummer (participant at front of boat with a loud voice directing the paddling).

Description
  • Juniors play Thursdays and Seniors play Fridays. Competitions runs for approximately 6 week.
  • Regional and National competitions are held in Term 1.
  • Regionals comp is a 1-day event held at ASB Kilbirnie.
  • National comp is a 3-day event held at ASB Kilbirnie.
  • A Premier grade for senior girls and boys will only be offered at Ākau Tangi Sport Centre and Walter Nash Sports Centre (senior boys only) in Term One.
  • The Premier grade will be played on a full-size futsal court.

Description
  • Student participation in the weekly and one-off tournaments will rely on assistance from parents and caregivers to help transport students
    • to venues.
  • Weekly competition – Monday after school in Term 1. Start time – 4.00pm. 
  • A 9-hole Stableford competition is played against other local colleges.
  • The stableford nature of the competition means that play is in fours – 2 players from each college.
  • Players must be a member of a club.

Description
  • Teams play weekdays after school and evenings depending on grades.
  • Teams train on the turf and play around the Wellington region during Terms 2 & 3.
Competition
  • Premier 1st X1 Boys & Girls teams compete in the Whanganui High sports exchange – 2024 AWAY, June 11
  • College Finals – National Hockey Stadium – August 23
  • NZSS Tournament – GIRL’S destination TBC 2 – 6 September
  • NZSS Tournament – BOYS   destination TBC 2 – 6 September
Game Venue
  • Fraser Park, Elsdon, Porirua, Maidstone or NHS turfs. 

  • 1st XI teams playing in premier grades may also play at Clareville Turf, Wairarapa.
Uniform
  • Team uniform is provided.
  • A hire charge of $30.00 (shirt/skirt/shorts)
Equipment
  • Students must have their own stick, mouth guard, shin pads and footwear suitable for playing on turf.
  • Goalies are required to play with protective gear at all times. Goalie gear can be supplied by the school if required.
Training
  • Monday after school at Fraser Park Turf.
  • Boys’ 1st X1 – Mondays – time to be confirmed.
  • Girls’ 1st X1 – Mondays – time to be confirmed.
  • Students are required to arrange their own transport to trainings.
Trial Dates
  • 4pm – 6pm – Fraser Park Hockey Turf – Monday 18 March 2024 & Monday 25 March 2024.
Registration
  • Please register online for all the sports you wish to participate in for 2024. Closing date for registration is Sunday 4 February 2024.
