Sport at Hutt Valley High School

At Hutt Valley High School, sport provides an inclusive environment where every student can participate and excel. Our goal is to make involvement in sport a fun, challenging, and rewarding experience that creates lasting school memories.

We recognise participation is an essential part of both physical and personal development. Regular exercise fosters well-being, supports healthy bodies, and enhances intellectual performance. A wide range of sports is offered to suit all levels of ability. Students can choose to participate socially or competitively, and we encourage everyone to get involved.

The Sports Office manages all major sporting codes, whole-school events, school exchanges, and representative tournaments. The Sports Office is located by the Main Gym.

2026 Sports Registrations – Now Open!

Registrations are now open for all summer and winter sports in 2026. The deadline to register for summer and winter sports is Friday, 23 January 2026.

To register for a sport select the tab below to access the registration link, and information on costs, game days, tournaments and more. Remember to register for each sport your student wants to play in 2026!

Other Sporting Codes

The following sports may be available in 2026 depending on student interest, and staff and/or parent support and availability of coaching: rock climbing, rowing, sailing, skateboarding and snow sports. If a student is interested in any other sport, please let the Sports Office know.

HVHS Sports Levy

In addition to individual registration fees for each sport, students are required to pay an annual $35 Sports Levy. This levy contributes to the administrative costs of organising more than 25 sporting codes at our kura. The fee is charged only once per year, regardless of how many sports a student registers for. The levy is compulsory and non-refundable. For information on payment options at HVHS please click here.

Social (Choice) Team Registration Form

Once all student members of a social team have registered for their chosen sport using the individual registration forms in the section above, they can then complete the Social Team Registration Form.

Students who wish to create their own social (choice) team need to complete the Social Team Registration Form below and email it to the Sports Office at sport@hvhs.school.nz.

Coaching, Managing and Volunteering

With over 900 students regularly playing sport at HVHS, we always need more help to run this large sports programme. We need coaches, managers, scorers, drivers willing to provide transport either on a regular basis or for occasional trips, members of the various Sports Committees and volunteers for fundraising.

If you’re available to help, please contact Sports Director, Kristi Tia at kristi.tia@hvhs.school.nz
