Cost
Premier Senior and Junior Premier A Teams registration fee is – $250.
All other teams – $60.
Additional costs per event or tournament e.g. entry fees, transport and accommodation where applicable, including costs associated with New Zealand Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week.
Fundraising is advised and can be organised through by a parent group.
Payments for winter sports are due by Friday, 22 May 2026.
Description
Badminton is played at both a competitive and social, competitive level for the inter-school competition for all age groups.
Juniors: Years 9-10 play Thursdays from 4:00pm-6:00pm starting Thursday, 7 May 2026.
Seniors: Years 11-13 play Fridays from 4:00pm-6:00pm starting Friday, 1 May 2026.
Social Team Set Up: Students may form a social or competitive team of at least 6 players. They must also nominate a competent adult coach/manager to attend their games when they enter their team. All players must complete an individual online registration, and then, in early 2026, teams will collect a Special form from the sports office to complete. Training is optional for these teams.
Venue
Most grades play at HVHS or various other Hutt Valley schools. Premier Teams play at Wellington, Tawa and the Naenae Badminton Halls.
Competition Key Dates
Competition season runs from May to August 2026.
College Sport Wellington (CSW) Junior Teams Finals – venue and timing to be confirmed.
CSW Junior Individual Championships – Badminton Hall, Hataitai on 11 August 2026.
CSW Open Singles Championships – Badminton Hall, Hataitai on 4 August 2026.
CSW Open Team Finals – venue and timing to be confirmed.
New Zealand Championships – Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua from 30 July 2026 to 2 August 2026.
Uniform
Juniors (Years 9-10) wear HVHS PE Shirt, black shorts & sports shoes.
Seniors (Years 11-13) wear HVHS PE Shirt, black shorts & sports shoes.
Premier Senior and Junior teams wear HVHS badminton tops (available to purchase from the Resource Centre), black shorts & sports shoes.
Equipment
Own racquet required to play in a team.
HVHS provides shuttlecocks and scoresheets.
Training Times
Premier Senior & Premier Junior teams train at Naenae Badminton Hall on Mondays from 5:00pm-7:00pm from Monday, 13 April 2026 running through to Monday, 24 August 2026.
All other teams train at HVHS in the Main Gym with Seniors (Years 11-3) training on Mondays from 3:30pm-4:30pm and Juniors training on Tuesdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm.
Trial Dates
Trials to be held at HVHS in the Main Gym with Juniors (Years 9-10) trialling on 30-31 March 2026 from 3:30pm-5:30pm and Seniors (Years 11-13) trialling on 1-2 April 2026.
